Black Progressive Media’s Relationship with the Left
From Ida B. Wells raising the issue of lynching to the Black Panther newspaper, Black media has been essential to progressive movements. With the rise of YouTube and podcasts and the decline of Black newspapers, the left now has its own media organs, but many are disconnected from the Black community.
From gun violence prevention to political prisoners and imperialism in the African diaspora, Black media presents issues often omitted from mainstream left discourse.
This panel will host a conversation with activists who also produce Black independent media in order to expose attendees to their work, discuss their experiences with mainstream left media, and make the case for (re)centering Black progressive media in left political discourse.
