The Ballot Box Alone Won't Save Us: Beyond Elections to Defeat Fascism
In competitive authoritarian systems, elections still matter, but they are not conducted on a level playing field. The ruling party uses elections to perform the appearance of democracy while capturing institutions, distorting our informational environment, and rewriting the rules to create a dramatically unfair advantage. What to do? Change how we think about elections to adapt to our new, uncomfortable reality in the United States, motivate demands for free and fair elections well before November to give the best chance of the fairest election possible, and build toward mass noncompliance, reimagining ourselves as citizen revolutionaries, because the only path to freedom is through fighting for it.
