Authoritarian Attacks on Democracy—and How Movements Fight Back
We are witnessing a coordinated escalation of authoritarian tactics to entrench minority rule and weaken democratic accountability. Attacks on ballot initiatives, voter access, and the implementation of voter-approved policies are no longer theoretical—they are happening now. As these threats intensify across the U.S., voter response is complex and often underestimated. Polling, election results, and qualitative research show not apathy, but growing concern about fairness, accountability, and abuse of power. This session examines what current data reveals about voter attitudes and how organizers can translate research into strategy to counter authoritarian narratives, strengthen organizing, and mobilize new democracy defenders.
